have just been told the World Service World Book Club recording with JGB due for this Thursday has been postponed as “the author is seriously unwell.”

Jim: granted, McGrath’s not exactly known for his subtlety, but in this case he’s referring to his web page, ‘The Terminal Collection’, patterned after Ballard’s ‘Terminal Beach’ short story. Full of Ballard rarities etc, his web page is.

Sad news. I’ve just spoken to the South Bank Centre – they’re automatically refunding all past credit-card ticket purchases, and sending letters out to people affected. They also specifically advised that I “tear the tickets up”.
