Cheers, Petri. Sounds great. The Church are wonderful -- I'll be sure to check those recommendations out.

Dear Mike et al,

On your list of Ballard-influenced songs … is “Chrome Injury” there?? I didn't think so. It's on the debut 1982 album by the Australian band The Church, 1981

In fact, a couple more of the song-titles have a Ballardian feel ("Bel-Air"; "Memories in Future Tense"), which, when you put that toegether with the band's other SF references, pretty much guarantees there's an overt connection to JGB.

Hope you get to hear it one day.

buried somewhere in my cd boxes, there is an obscure recording made by (Germany's?) experimental band CRANIOCLAST. It is a tribute to JGB's "The Atrocity Exhibition" - complete with a heavy photo-booklet that represents their vision...
I like Shore's OST to "Crash" EXACTLY because it first shows no feelings and works its way to the viewer like the images (building up slowly but desicively)...
I also liked very much JG Thirlwell's score and sound design for the AtrEx because it matches the somewhat chaotic flow of images...
The music of "Low Flying Aircraft" is as european as the film itself (stylish but expected)but I keep on believing that silence would work as fine in future JGB filmic adaptations of "High Rise" or "The Unlimited Dream Company"

I made a recording under an raised motorway, it was heavily distorted, the sounds bleeding into each other. Listening to it caused my heartbeat to race.

I hear music when I read Ballard, but it is always distant, on the wind, muffled

the 'dead astronaut' motif is also unfairly ignored.

i agree with you, though -- surely the lush tropicalism of his early disaster novels is ripe for some kind of ambient techno squelch?

An interesting piece - thanks.

Not directly related to music but mentioned here... I find that most of the Ballard coverage on the web focuses on his urban myths and concepts of city and secure compounds. But What about the jungle? The tropical environment that is so powerful in at least four Ballard novels doesn't seem to have captured his readers' attention as much as the concrete sculpture stuff.
