I think Ballard’s Maggie enthusiasm came down to:

1) The Thatcherite will to build and techophilia.

2) A good old English middle-class nanny complex!

Naturally, for me it remains the biggest blot on JGB’s record.

I think that he goes to the point: time is not reversible. Time-reversal processes are rare in nature (or in culture). In this sense, what we are dealing now is with the debris of modernity. Gray is a brilliant thinker, and Ballard suits him well.
