Love Mike’s comments about writing ‘in the shadow of the bomb’, because what he says is the bone-hard truth. Just been re-reading Jeff Nuttall’s ‘Bomb Culture’ which further amplifies the mind-set, that because we were living on the ‘Eve of Destruction’ all previous constants were rendered obsolete, all art, all literature, all political allegiances, all fixed ideas were in existential flux… yet, even more bizarrely, here we are sixty years later still intact and regurgitating it all…

Wonderful to see those issues of ‘Concentrate’ – legendary titles I’ve long since lost, but great to see them reproduced here. I’ve got some ‘Corridors’ and ‘Wordworks’ and ‘Crucified Toad’ but haven’t come across Dave’s ‘Weird Fantasy’ before – and if, as your caption claims, it is 1971, how come it’s cover-dated 18 February 1958? Some quirky deliberate retro…? I could write more at interminable length, and probably will…

This is fabulous stuff. I have never ceased to admire the sheer guts of Michael and David in persevering with their vision. They have labored through raids, harassment, bankruptcies — it gives me reason to hope they’ll weather this recession too, and then we’ll all be turning the pages of more Savoy goodness.

Kudos to Mike and Ballardian for helping to give Savoy the recognition it deserves. I look forward to the next installments.
