Great image of Ballard visiting the east end, once, and he never gets out of the car! Just cruises on thru...reminds me of Ballard describing being at some guggenheim art palace and unwittingly seeing Peggy lonely, dying, and being helped by a caretaker in an adjacent room away from the Ernst work....I love it...Good stuff!

Hi! Very interesting, Mr. Sinclair! I think Jim Ballard the greatest writer in the world, I made three covers for Italian Publishers (CRASH, COCAINE NIGHTS - Jim loved it - and Rushing to Paradise) and I was in touch with him for years. See my site, for your pleasure and tell me what you think about it. Ciao, from the Painter LUCA DEL BALDO

Nice to see Iain acknowledging the role of High Wycombe in the psychogeography of London's fringelands (mind you Gordon S Maxwell was doing that in 1924). I've written something about psychogeography and the Wycombe terror suspects on this blog. You'll find a list of City of Disappearances events here

By far one of the best interviews on this site - don't ever think of having any second thoughts about maintaining this site, Simon!
Haven't had the chance to read Iain Sinclair's Crash book, but in this interview he seems to be much more sympathetic on the Atrocity Exhibition movie. I don't mean to be rude or smart-ass, but if I were in his shoes I wouldn't have written about AtrEx-the movie if all i had seen was fragments from a work in progress. That aside, I still admire Sinclair and his works, but he beauty and interst of Ballard's work lies (among other things) exactly on this : no one can claim to be the one and only apostle of his ideas - sorry for the blah-blah-blah nad best wishes!!!

J.G. Ballard & Iain Sinclair

I thought [Ballard had] really got it right. It never was science fiction, it was hyper-sharp reportage. His reality of the 60s had now come into place in the English landscape. That kind of world he’s endlessly talk...
