JGB on Jordan

A JGB-quoting story from the Daily Telegraph, on the ‘news’ that popular glamour model Jordan is to ‘write’ two novels -
Several heavyweights of the literary world were impressed to have an unexpected new novelist in their midst.
JG Ballard, the veteran author of more than 30 books including Empire of the Sun, said: “I hope she has every success. It might win the Booker Prize. One has to accept that we are living in times when the only things that matter are celebrity and money, and if Jordan writes a novel, that will bring the two together. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing I’ll leave for you to judge.”

Jordan writing a novel is the most disturbing news I’ve heard since Naomi Campbell announced her novel.
By the way, we possibly have Elle McPherson to thank for all this. In Australia, a few years back, there was an interview published with her that has slipped into the storied annals of celebrity prattle.
The interviewer asked Elle what books she likes to read.
And she replied: “I don’t read books because I don’t think you should read what you haven’t written”.
“Those who write clearly have readers, those who write obscurely have commentators.”
“Any fool can write a novel but it takes real genius to sell it.”
“Writing is like prostitution. First you do it for love, and then for a few close friends, and then for money.”

From another Telegraph ring-round, on dishonest marketing of ‘award-winning’ novels.
