Exclusive: British producer Jeremy Thomas on his slate

“At the Locarno Film festival where he picked up the Raimondo Rezzonico independent producer award this week, British indie mogul Jeremy Thomas ran Empire through the impressive slate of of movies he’s got on the boil at the moment, including Terry Gilliam’s Tideland and Richard Linklater’s Fast Food Nation. Considering this is the man behind an awesome cannon including Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, The Last Emperor, Crash and Sexy Beast, Thomas is woefully unrecognised in Blighty. So here’s our little contribution to
rectifying that.

Providing employment to Cube director Vincenzo Natali is A-OK by us, and with the adaptation of British living literary legend JG Ballard’s High Rise, which is in the second draft stage, Thomas is doing just that. Set in the tallest tower block in the world, where the important folks exist in gated communities at the top, and the plebs at the bottom, ‘it’s very prescient about the world,’ says Thomas.
