Drowned Shepperton

Check out these flood maps — dynamic maps predicting sea-level rise around the globe (found via Dissensus).
First, adjust the rising sea level to +14m.
Then focus on London.
Now zoom into Shepperton.
Result: a self-fulfilling prophecy for the Shepperton-based author of The Drowned World.

As far as I can make out from the IPCC AR4, there isn’t enough fossil fuel in the world to get +14 metres of sea level rise. Mind you, that area is all Thames backwaters. (Heathrow Airport was built on a swamp.)
Wouldn’t that just be a fulfilled prophecy, and not a self-fulfilling one, unless it’s Ballard’s will that’s somehow raising the sea?
well it’s just a bit of fun; idle speculation. if ballard believed this scenario would come to pass, then i suppose it’s self-fulfilling. you could hedge either way, of course.
in any case, adjust the sea level to +7m, which is far more likely based on current predictions, and shepperton escapes.
