Sontag on Ballard
Author: Simon Sellars • Jun 26th, 2008 •Category: Ballardosphere, film
Here is Susan Sontag praising the Grove Press edition of Love and Napalm: Export USA (aka The Atrocity Exhibition). This appeared in Evergreen Review no. 96 (Spring 1973), in a publisher’s advertisement.
Each book by J. G. Ballard is possibly his best book. Enviable, admirable Ballard! His subtle, brutal, cerebral, intoxicating Love & Napalm, which I have just finished reading, therefore seems to me his best book. Ballard, who used to write about the future, has observed that today’s America, America of the Vietnam War is science fiction enough. Important, necessary Ballard!
Thanks, David P.
