It’s good to see that Jacques Vallee is still appreciated. I left off being a UFO-nut some thirty or so years ago … but while I was in that phase, Vallee’s ‘Anatomy of a Phenomenon’ seemed easily the best book on the subject.

Of course another famous Ufologist , albeit rather less believable, was George Adamski, who appeared in fictionalised form (as ‘Charles Kandinski’) in Ballard’s 1963 story ‘The Venus Hunters’. Ballard’s treatment of UFO experiences in that story seems to pretty well reflect Vallee’s belief that UFOs represent an important aspect of human psychology, rather than an extraterrestrial visitation.

I recall that a while back we had a discussion on the JGB mailing list about Adamski, who for a time in the late 1950s and early 1960s was quite famous.

Mac Tonnies is a known Internet crank of the pseudoscientific “UFO” myth and “face on Mars” delusion type. And such cranks typically begin their phony arguments by redefining reality; so if Tonnies really believes that reality is a “very shallow facade,” then he should test that belief by jumping off the nearest cliff.

Guaranteed: He’ll reconsider that false belief. It is, in fact, Tonnies’ grasp on reality that subsists as a “very shallow facade.” Think!
