Definitely his books have made me feel things I wouldn’t have believed books were capable of… and some of his passages, such as certain descriptions in “The Drowned World” and “The Crystal World” provide the most beautiful mental images of anything I’ve read… Thanks for the interview and this post. He is such an amazingly intelligent and thoughtful human being.

I love what he said about Crash. It was the first book by Ballard I read. Reading it in apublic place I was having a visceral reaction and looked around me and wondered if it showed in my face, It was my first of many. I was hooked and awed.

This is a very moving interview. JGB’s writing has got me through some very bad times in my life. I have always wanted an autographed photo. I just learned of his illness today. I am so sad.

Good interview. It’s strange reading JGB’s interviews … I can’t quite put my finger on it, but in the sense of the endless repetitions, the endless recounting of his memories – it’s as though he were reading from scraps of a script that he’d found somewhere. Bodies lining the streets of Shanghai … England, dull and grey … Speaking as though they had won the war, but acting as though they had lost it … A crime commited by nature … What must JGB feel repeating his life, especially the things most hurtful, and especially now; surely the repitition would give it a sense of unreality in itself?

I agree, Ben – it’s probably an imputing of depth and poignancy on our point because of the useless knowledge of his impending death but his prescience, and well, wisdom, is taking on a different tone.
